Setting a Place

Food as Culture, Relationship and History

Matthew Evans, the Gourmet Farmer, spends his life elbow-deep in researching, producing and sharing some of the finest food on earth – right here in Tasmania.

Dr L.J.M. Owen, Festival Director of the Huon Valley’s new Terror Australis Readers and Writers Festival, is the author of the Dr Pimms archaeological mystery series, each instalment of which includes recipes in the back.

Join Matthew and L.J. in a conversation on the place of food in creating a setting – for fiction, for family, for relationships – and the continuity of the Tasmanian food landscape since the introduction of European farming practices. Using the Huon Valley as an example, Matthew and L.J. also explore what might be on the plate of Tasmanians in the future. Questions from the audience highly encouraged!

This session will be held at Hadley’s Orient Hotel on Sunday the 15th of September. Tickets can be obtained here.

Matthew will be launching his next recipe book – The Commons – at L.J.’s festival the first weekend of November.
